Why am I here?

I figure I should write some sort of introduction in case anyone ever comes across my blog.  I am a Canadian obstetrician and I love my job.  There is nothing better that seeing the joy as new parents welcome their children into this world.  However, I have seen the dark side of pregnancy.  I am frustrated by the growing movement of natural birth because it just assumes that everything is good.  If not, blame the obstetrician.

Mostly this is a place for me to ramble.  It is also a place to organize my thoughts.  If I use any patient examples, I promise that their identify will be protected, but I refuse to just make up cases.  I have helped some moms through some horrifying experiences.  It is not fear mongering to address the complications of pregnancy, it is life.  Anyone who believes that it won’t happen to them should “get their heads out of their birth canals”.

I am not here to pick a fight, but I will defend my comments.  I won’t erase any contradictory statements, I love a good debate (especially when I am right).

Thanks for stopping by.Image
